Best purchase I’ve made in a long time. Within first 2hours of setting up I caught chipmunk. Since then I have caught 6 more which I release in the forest
This trap works well with chipmunks, but a small squirrel got in it once and tore up the trigger that comes down into the trap (I was able to repair it) and started to rip open the wires on the door. Make sure you set some large pieces of wood or similar next to the trap to prevent larger animals from getting in. Once I started doing this, I did not have any more issues with the small squirrels getting in. I like it because it is very easy to set.
We suddenly found ourselves hosting roof rats. I discovered I actually don’t mind rats as much as mice. However, I still prefer them outside. I followed the instructions and set the trap but didn’t hook up tripping pedal so they got used to it. Once I set the trip I started catching the little critters multiple times everyday. Very pleased with this.
I am ordering my second trap. I think this one is effective. We don’t have a rat problem but our garden is occasionally plagued by chipmunks and to a lesser extent squirrels. I usually bait the trap with peanut butter on a bit of cracker. I have caught plenty of chipmunks, a mouse or two and four squirrels, which are a touch too big for the trap. The fourth squirrel was the trap’s nemesis. He managed to peel back a corner of the wire mesh, and he really damaged the trigger mechanism, both the bow and the piece through which clevis pin is inserted. I’ve attempted repair, but it’s pretty much kaput. My only two critiques: 1. the trigger mechanism could be a little sturdier; 2. the “bait plate” is somewhat difficult to clean.
I have some rats in my garage that came from a neighbors house across the street and decided to stay… They’ve been avoiding other traps (lethal and nonlethal) in my garage but so far, this one has caught 2. Releasing them is easy too, on my way to work I stop at a park and they run right out of the cage. The cleanup is easy and I plan on keeping it set up until I know they’re all gone.
These traps work beautifully for squirrels–peanut butter being the best bait. However the release mechanism is somewhat delicate, and the squirrels can mess it up or damage it after a while since they become very frantic inside the cage once trapped. I’d recommend monitoring the trap pretty closely and releasing the squirrels soon after they are trapped, if possible.
Works, I caught 2 chipmunk in 2 days. 1 every day.

Works great, and easy to open and let the rodent out.
Unfortunately, squirrel and chipmunk don’t like confined spaces and tend to die in the trap if in there for more than couple hours. So make sure you check on the trap often.
This was so easy to set up and so very efficient! We bought two and within 48 hours had trapped three chipmunks and have trapped two more the next day. It’s easy to use and very easy to release the chipmunks. They seem to love sunflower seeds. Good luck!
Exactly as advertised - well built and ready to go to work.

It’s simple to set and works perfectly for catching chipmunks/ground squirrels that are eating my garden so I can take them to a local Area and turn them loose. It’s virtually perfect and stupid proof.
Already have one and ordered another for backyard. Easy to set up and use. I did add foam board on the bottom to keep bait from falling through the trap. Appreciate this is live trap. Critters now have a new zip code!
On the packaging it says not to bend the door handle. First one came with straight door handle and second one handle was bent over the top to get in packaging. 🙄WARNING right on the label of packaging, with pictures!
Once the trap shuts, chipmunks can push the door open from the inside and escape. By simply inserting a stiff/thin wire (or some other material) across the top of the door that swings down, the wire will drop down in front of the door creating a kind of barricade that won’t allow the door to open until it is removed. Hard to describe. The pictures should help. Finally, once trapped, relocate ASAP because chipmunks can/will chew through the cage.

Really dislike the trip mechanism. A squirrel got traped in mine and was able to bend and damage the trip mechanism easily

Easy to set up. In the first day I caught four rodents (mice). I used peanut butter as bait. Easy to tell when you have something in the trap.
